Give him the money, Mabel…

Uncle Charles won’t like the reference to the Wilfred Pickles programme broadcast on the Home Service of the BBC around war time. I read today that a high percentage of UK children know little or nothing of D Day so to remind ourselves that the war was 1939|45.

I digress – Pickles and his wife visited a town and interviewed local people some of whom performed their party pieces and the best ones were rewarded with a money prize, which was where his wife Mabel came in.

Back to the plot – Uncle Charles was a concert party soloist and performer and his wife Agnes learned the piano to accompany him on his performances to Masonic dinners and such like events, which they attended in the evenings. Read their son Ian’s accounts.

Charles also recorded onto vinyl discs which are in Ian’s loft. These recordings are in the Charles categories on these pages. Charles’ great-niece is Julie Leg whose husband Jel has re-mastered them to be relatively click-free.
