About the site
“The intention of this blog is to create a forum where like minded members of the family can share photos or memorabilia, contribute items of interest, comment, reply or just generally have a conversation”.
That was 2013 when the blog first started, and I had no idea how to create one. Now it has morphed into a beast of two halves.
Pages
These are individual pages created and authored by the family. These are listed on the top menu of the blog. Click to see the biographies.
Posts
These are displayed on the front page. They are also grouped to individual people as listed at the footer as well.
Comments
Click the reply or comment buttons as you see them… say anything you like, this way the blog gets some life and energy. Post corrections, perspectives, memories, or anything else, even if it’s to say “hello”.
Adding to the blog
My ambition is to get everyone to blog as they wish. it is easy. A slight complication is that (I guess) we would like the site to be private, so to ensure this, “permission to post” needs to be given.
Complete this form.
I will then send an invite, click on the set password link, and … wait for it, set your password (or it will do this automatically if you ask it nicely). Then when you visit the site, at the top should be “+New” button. Click on this and you can post.
Or, send me the text, and or images, to harry@merryhall.uk and I will post it for you.
The address is for anything important which you cannot scan or replicate:

Set to go…
but don’t be frightened of it, it won’t bite – post a test, write nonsense to test it out, just say hello, just play with it. I can always edit it, delete it, etc. Above all we all want to hear what you want to say, so don’t disappoint your readers!
This is a sample reply to a thought about the above.
Like all families there were fallings out, and again like all determinedly family families there were makings up. The reasons are historical, and probably trivial with hindsight glasses on and as such they will remain.

I characterise the family (Gladys through to Fred) as competitive; as most family members are. It is complicated by being spread over a number of years, and roles differing as years passed, with the older ones looking after the younger ones, and as the younger ones grew older, the older ones leaving to work, and subsequently leaving home. Just like a flock of hens, some were pecked, and others assumed the role of matriarch. It was a time of differing fortunes, war and depression, which must have brought enormous financial and emotional pressures to bear. As marriages arrived it also brought different personalities to the mix which I guess brought new tensions and new alliances between the newcomers.
